The Second Glenlivet Appearance From "Ray Donovan"

The Ray Donovan scotch sightings just keep coming.  I promise to switch it up (for a little while) after this.  This clip is technically a two-for-one deal because I tacked on the J&B appearance from later in the episode.  J&B is so ubiquitous in movies and TV shows that I see no point in dedicating an entire post to each appearance.  I barely have enough time in my life to bring y'all the premium/rare malts.  Speaking of which; check out this (somewhat lengthy) scene from episode 7 in which Ray catches up with an old pal over a bottle of 12 year old Glenlivet.

Matthew McConaughey Sips Black Label in "Dallas Buyers Club"

Just in time for the Oscars, here's the Johnnie Walker Black label appearance from the 2013 film Dallas Buyers Club starring Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto.  My prediction is that both of these fine gents will win the academy award for best actor and best supporting actor respectively, and, as you probably know, my Oscar predictions are never wrong.

It is always great to see a scene featuring McConaughey, considering his 2011 film The Lincoln Lawyer was actually my inspiration for starting this site.  Hard to believe that was 3 years (and nearly 300 sightings) ago.

The Black Label appears at the 1:30:00 mark in the film.  Check out the clip as well as some screenshots and alternate artwork below.  Click here to like us on Facebook.

Johnnie Walker Black Label Spotted in True Detective

Unfortunately, the best show on TV is about to come to an end.  The finale of HBO's True Detective is just 24 short hours away.  Hopefully all of these loose ends swirling around in my head will be tied up and I won't slip into madness attempting to figure out this series.  There have been two scotch sightings so far.  This scene featuring the Black Label took place just over 11 minutes into episode 4.  I'll post the next one tomorrow.  It was tough to catch.  Let me know in the comments if you spotted it.

No word yet on whether True Detective has been renewed for a second season.  In the meantime I guess we're doomed to keep watching these 8 episodes over and over and over forever...because time is a flat circle.

P.S.  Lots of nudity in this clip.  Sorry.

A Brief Macallan Sighting From HBO's True Detective

As promised, here's the quick shot of Macallan 12 from episode 7 of True Detective.  I've bribed enough law enforcement types in my time to know that one can never go wrong with this bottle.  Though depending on the severity of the favor you're asking, you might want to spring for the 18.  It is almost time for the show to start so I gotta run soon.  Be sure to check out the clip which is from around the 30 minute mark in last week's episode titled "After You've Gone".

The Fourth Glen McKenna Sighting from "How I Met Your Mother"

Holy crap!  Only 4 episodes left!  I honestly didn't thnk there'd be another Glen McKenna sighting before the end of the series, but here we are.  Season 9, episode 20.  Big thanks to my man Matthew Bear for leaving this tip for me in the comments section.  This is actually the 4th Glen Mackenna sighting from How I Met Your Mother. You can check out the others here, here, and here.  It's a little hard to read the age statement on the bottle (not that it matters considering it doesn't exist anyway) but I'm 99% sure it said 35 years when I watched it on the my big screen.

Check out the clip and some pics below.  I've been told there are other Glen McKenna appearances throughout the series but I've yet to spot them.  Please let me know if you have any luck.

A Brief Flash of Bastille French Whiskey in 'The Following'

Bastille!  Here's a whisky I've been trying to get my hands on for quite some time.  I wish I could tell you that I've tried it and loved it but, for now, we'll both have to take the word of the countless others who've given this blend a rave review.  That's the downside of living in Ontario, Canada.  Government controlled alcohol sales often equals depressingly limited distribution.

Speaking of things I wish I'd had a chance to enjoy...The Following is a show I've been meaning to get into since it debuted last year.  Even my mom has been scolding me for not watching it yet.  Perhaps this fleeting glimpse of Bastille in episode 5 from this season is a sign.

Thanks to William Ricker for sending me this hot tip via Twitter.  Keep 'em coming, folks.

The First Scotch Sighting From NBC's 'Community'

There have been a few Glencallan sighting throught the 5 seasons of Community but they were so brief or fuzzy that I didn't bother posting them.  This one from season 5, episode 5 was pretty in-your-face and therefore worthy of mentioning.  The (rather cool Macallan-ish looking) box shows up about 16 minutes into the episode.

Looks like this is officially the last episode featuring Troy (aka Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino) as he announced last year that he was leaving.  Here's a quick article from TV Line about his reason(s) for leaving.  He'll definitely be missed.  Luckily I have a new Gambino album to keep me going for a while.

Check out the video below and yes, I realize that Glencallan is fake.

It has been quite a while since the last scotch sighting but the hiatus is almost over.  Plenty of new clips coming up.  The site is currently going through some renovations so in the meantime, here are some interesting whisky commercials to hold everyone over.  Haven't done any of these commercial breaks in ages.  The ones below are rather quirky to say the least.  One is fake (I'll let you figure out which one), the Duran Duran advert is just completely bizarre, and the McEwan's Scotch Beer clip might be the worst commercial I've ever seen.  Even though the god awful song has been stuck in my head all day.

Click here for some of the whisky commercials we've featured in previous posts.

Another Vintage Jameson Sighting in Boardwalk Empire

Here's a quick clip from the final episode of season 4.  This one features Al Capone who happens to be one of the best characters on television and is played to perfection by British actor Stephen Graham.  I'd love to see Capone get his own spinoff series after Boardwalk Empire wraps up next year.

This is the 4th post from this series and the 2nd appearance of this vintage Jameson bottle.  Click here to watch the pervious scenes.  Very sad to hear that season 5 will be the last.  Hopefully the series will go out with a bang.

Another Cutty Sark Sighting from Mad Men

Cutty 12 to be precise.  One thing that consistently impresses me about AMC's Mad Men is the attention to detail.  Everything from fashion to slang to cigarettes and especially alcohol is historically accurate.  In this scene from season 7 episode 2, Peter Campbell (Vincent Kartheiser) drinks from a vintage bottle of Cutty 12.  I'm not sure exactly when they changed the label from simply "Cutty 12" to "Cutty Sark 12 year" but I'm pretty sure it was around the late 70s or early 80s.  Either way, I'd pay top dollar for this retro bottle today.

I haven't finished watching the final season of Mad Men yet but hopefully there will be a few more sightings.  Fell free to let me know if you spot one.  You can check out our many other Mad Men-related posts here.

The Late Robin Williams on Drinking With Scotsmen

I still haven't been able to wrap my head around the passing of Robin Williams.  One of the greatest comedians in history.  I truly hope that, considering the circumstances, no one finds this post to be in poor taste.  It is simply a clip of one of his stand-up specials which I've always found to be hilarious.

And here's one of the scotch sightings from about 3 years ago featuring Mr. Williams' amazing performance in The Birdcage.

Oh Captain, My Captain...He will be missed.

The Glencallan 1962 in Hart of Dixie

Here's a clip from episode 21 of the 3rd season of CW's Hart of Dixie.  Actually, it's two clips from the same episode which prominently featured the Glencallan 1962.  We all likely know the story of the world's most popular fake scotch at this point so I'll spare you the details.  After all, it has shown up everywhere from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to Sons of Anarchy and many other three-word shows with "of" in the title.

Check out the video and some screenshots below.

By popular demand, here are all of the sightings of the mythical scotch known as Noble Stag from the 2013 film Last Vegas.  There might be a few mild spoilers in the clip, so be warned.  Also, if you look closely you may spot a quick glimpse of a Dewar's 18 bottle.

Here's the Johnnie Walker Black Label appearance from the latest X-Men film.  I saw it in IMAX recently and was blown away.  Probably my favortie movie from the franchise thus far.  The scene takes place about 53 minutes into the film.

Glenlivet Spotted in House of Cards

It has been over a year and a half since the first House of Cards sighting and that one didn't even feature an actual scotch.  We've finally found the first of several bona fide single malt appearances from this spectacular Netflix series.  This clip is from the final episode of season one.  Enjoy!

A 1926 Macallan Gets Wasted in House of Cards

Yet another great sighting from the Netflix original series House of Cards.  This scene featuring a $40,000 bottle of Macallan is from the 5th episode of season 2.  Some of you may remember a 1926 Macallan selling for $54,000 a few years back.  Watch the video and try not to cry when you see what happens.  I'd be devastated if someone treated my 12 year Macallan like this.

Scotch Cinema's Top 5 Scotches Under $40.00

This wasn't easy.  Narrowing my top 5 scotches is difficult enough without being limited by price.  A few different regions are represented here and I hope you won't be disappointed by my selections.

5. Tomatin Legacy: Tomatin distillery's new no-age-statement release uses virgin oak as well as bourbon casks. It provides a new entry level to the Tomatin range but the use of different casks make this a unique expression. $36.95

4. Johnnie Walker Black Label: I'd be lying to you if I said this wasn't a staple of my whisky selection since day one.  You can't go wrong with this guy on the shelf.  It might seem like an obvious choice, but you know you love it too. $39.99

3. Bowmore Legend: No list would be complete without Islay being represented at least once.  For my money, nothing beats this peaty bad boy. $39.95

2. Glenfiddich 12 Year: One word...Consistency.  This may seem like another painfully obvious choice, but when it comes to Glenfiddich, taste trumps pretension every time.  I've never had a less than stellar dram and if I only had $40 in my pocket to purchase a can't-miss single malt, it would be an easy choice.  Somehow the world's most popular single malt manages to remain underrated. $39.99

1. anCnoc 12 Year: As a Canadian it is nearly impossible to find a bottle of anCnoc at a decent price.  It is criminal what we pay for alcohol in this country.  Therefore whenever I'm in the good ol' USA I make it a priority to track down a bottle of this delicious Highland single malt and make it last.  This is my "special occasion" dram and an easy choice to top this list.  $39.95

If you haven't been watching Drunk History then we might've gotten to the bottom of why you have no friends and why nobody likes you.  This show is absolutely hilarious and is not to be missed.  This clip is from season 2 episode 5.  You can also watch full episodes over at the Comedy Central website.

With the season finale airing tomorrow night I thought i'd throw this clip up here for y'all.  The Knick is a show unlike any other and I highly recommend giving it a chance.  Any fan of Steven Soderbergh should be more than impressed with his first foray into tv.
